NOTE: The following videos on this page were filmed in 2005 before the official founding of the UKF.
The Alphabet Techniques were filmed in 2005 with Sr. Grandmaster Davis present and serving as the technical advisor. Recently, Sr. Grandmaster Davis provided his written notes from Sijo Emperado and addressed some minor variations in Alphabets C, D and G.
Alphabet C was originally filmed with a takedown to the left. Sr. Grandmaster Davis’ notes also show the technique with a takedown to the right. Sr. Grandmaster Davis explained the technique was taught and practiced both ways. If you find yourself against a wall, then the direction of the takedown would be based on taking the attacker down in the opposite direction of the wall, thus dictating a left-side or right-side takedown.
Alphabet D was filmed with the last two strikes being a single knuckle strike to the back using your left hand, followed by a right forearm strike to the chest or throat area. Those two strikes can be considered routine add-libs that were used. They do not need to be part of the technique. The choice is yours. Either way is acceptable.
Alphabet G has a note to step forward with your right foot at the end of the technique, placing your right leg behind the attacker’s right leg. When doing that the attacker falls easier with the double forearm strike across the throat. During the filming in 2005, the right step behind the leg was not included.
In 2021, Sr. Grandmaster Davis was present as we re-filmed Alphabet Techniques C and G. They are included in this video series. You can perform the techniques in either format. Both are acceptable.
